Part of the KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) is the ITAS (Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis). ITAS organized the workshop as part of the European IANUS (Inspiring and Anchoring Trust in Science) project:

Trust or mistrust in science? The role of journalism, fake news and social expectations

In terms of content, it was about the tension between trust and disinformation in our media landscape. Whistleblowers, investigative journalists, media scientists, activists and philosophers were invited – a very exciting day for me! I visualized the various discussions and contributions live using digital graphic recording, which was transmitted to a large screen in real time. This allowed all participants to follow the creation of the image in parallel.

At the end of the day, I presented a short summary of the graphic recording.

The Karl9 – Science Center for Technology and Society then hosted an exhibition that made the topic accessible to visitors with interactive exhibits.

I drew further illustrations for the following ITAS exhibition at Karl9 on the subject of the search for a final storage site, which can be found here.

The IANUS project (Inspiring and Anchoring Trust in Science) is a European initiative focused on fostering public trust in science through extensive research, community engagement and co-creation practices.

Key objectives include the creation of a conceptual framework for understanding the dynamics of trust, active dialog platforms for connecting scientists and the public, and policy recommendations to improve science communication and ethical practices in research. By incorporating different perspectives, IANUS aims to ensure that scientific research is relevant, ethical and able to address complex societal challenges.

What my Clients say

Impressively to the point

Miriam Barton’s graphic recording impressively summed up our complex topic of scientific trust and media impact. With great clarity and flair, she translated the discussions and content of our workshop into concise, visual

Pictures translated: A real enrichment for our work. What was particularly nice was that her illustrations had an impact far beyond the event and became part of an exhibition on the subject of trust at our research institute in Karlsruhe. An inspiring and professional collaboration!
